MEDRISK’S ECB COMPLETES PRELIMINARY VALIDATION OF A SPANISH-LANGUAGE PATIENT SATISFACTION MEASUREMENT TOOL FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY CAREKING OF PRUSSIA, PA. (Feb. 14, 2007) MedRisk’s Expert Clinical Benchmarks® (ECB) recently completed the preliminary validation of its Spanish-language MedRisk Instrument for Measuring Physical Therapy Patient Satisfaction. Originally developed in English in 2001, the tool was converted for Spanish-speaking patients to enhance communication and ensure their representation in future quality assurance analyses. A total of 203 patients participated in the research study, which involved a 20-item survey given after the patient completed a course of outpatient physical therapy care in the New York City area. Findings support the reliability and validity of measures obtained from the English version. “We are very pleased to have validated the tool for Spanish-speaking patients,” said Roger Nelson, PhD, PT, FAPT and vice president of ECB and a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. “As we discovered in the English version, the Spanish version of MedRisk’s Instrument for Measuring Physical Therapy Patient Satisfaction indicated that patient satisfaction with physical therapy is most strongly linked to the professional behavior of the clinician.” Paul Beattie, PhD, PT, OCS, a clinical associate professor, Program in Physical Therapy, Department of Exercise Science, Arnold School of Public Health and the Dept. of Developmental Biology and Anatomy, School of Medicine, University of South Carolina, worked with Dr. Nelson, and Angela Lis, PT, MS, an associate clinical director for the Occupational and Industrial Orthopedic Center at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and an instructor in the Program of Ergonomics and Biomechanics at New York University in New York City conducted the investigation.
