Influential textbook has been republished with chapter commentaries from the world’s leading pain and rehabilitation experts.
Originally published in 1976, Wilbert (Bill) Fordyce’s book is considered the seminal textbook on psychologically oriented pain management and pain-associated disability. As a clinical psychologist, Fordyce helped pioneer the behavioral approach to rehabilitation, which underpins modern approaches to chronic pain management. Having obtained permission from the Fordyce family to republish the original text, Main and his four co-editors elicited an illustrated biography of Dr. Fordyce and 20 chapter-by-chapter commentaries from international experts, discussing research conducted and guidelines developed since the initial publication.
Main is an expert on the bio-psychosocial approach to pain management and managing pain in the workplace and a former (and recently emeritus) professor of clinical psychology at Keele University in Staffordshire, Great Britain. He serves on the editorial board of Physical Therapy and has coauthored more than 200 books, monographs, reports and peer-reviewed articles.
Main has served on MedRisk’s ISAB since 1999. ISAB is responsible for identifying, performing and promulgating research on best-practice treatment in the areas of physical medicine and neuro-diagnostics, and for maintaining the MedRisk proprietary clinical guidelines.
“Fordyce’s Behavioral Methods for Chronic Pain and Illness: Republished with Invited Commentaries,” by Chris J. Main, PhD, Francis Keefe, PhD, Mark Jensen, PhD, Johan W. S. Vlaeyen, PhD and Kevin Vowles, PhD is available in online outlets, including Amazon.
