MedRisk’s Chief Strategy Officer Ruth Estrich to Deliver Workers’ Compensation Perspective at Arcadia University Program

“Imploding the Healthcare Paradigm by Rethinking and Redesigning the Health Sciences Curricula and Programming for the Future” will be held July 21 in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

To keep its graduate programs in tune with the future needs of healthcare delivery, Arcadia University has invited national thought leaders to discuss the future of healthcare in a special forum. “Imploding the Healthcare Paradigm by Rethinking and Redesigning the Health Sciences Curricula and Programming for the Future” will be held on July 21 at the university campus in Glendale, Pennsylvania.

Ruth Estrich, Chief Strategy Officer of MedRisk, a leader in physical rehabilitation for injured workers, was invited to represent workers’ compensation. She will deliver a primer on the industry’s treatment philosophy, the impact of changing demographics and the expected impacts of the Affordable Care Act. She will also discuss the opportunities for adoption of key workers’ compensation concepts by the other healthcare delivery systems.

“While the objective of group health managed care is to control the cost of medical care, the objective of workers’ comp managed care is to control the total cost of the claim, which includes getting the injured employee back to work at a pre-injury level of function,” she said.  “Successfully managing a comp claim means restoring function, a concept that benefits all stakeholders, whether the person is working, or injured on-the-job or at home.”

She will also discuss the growing acceptance of a biopsychosocial treatment model and will highlight the expanding role for physical therapists in pain management and identifying and resolving biopsychosocial barriers to recovery.
